A familiar narrative unhinged, its heroine voiced, its hero reimagined.

On 10 January 2015, Perpetuo performed with director Max Barton, artist Tom de Freston and poet Kiran Millwood Hargrave in a new cross-arts collaboration based on the story of Orpheus, staged at 47/49 Tanner Street, London.

Part exhibition, part performance, this immersive evening led the audience into an Underworld in search of Eurydice. Underscored by James Turnbull and Perpetuo, Max Barton performed his own version of Orpheus's lament as audiences followed Eurydice's trail through poetry by Barbican Young Poet Kiran Millwood Hargrave, while the walls offered insights into the Underworld as imagined by Breese Little artist Tom de Freston.

This was the first collaboration between these three practitioners, whose work has since been performed and exhibited internationally, from Tokyo to Denmark to the Antarctic.

This programme is available for future festival and recital series programming, with scope to adapt the poetry, visual art and staging collaborations to suit each venue and its collaborating artists.
